In the exhibition "Alberto Giacometti", the Max Ernst Museum Brühl of the LVR shows why the Swiss sculptor, painter and draughtsman is one of the most important artists of the 20th century. As a genius of modernism, he created highly original sculptures, drawings and paintings that are influenced by both surrealism and cubism.

Elongated bodies, distorted forms and distant perspectives are his stylistic devices. In his surrealist-influenced works, Giacometti explores the abysses of the unconscious with great inventiveness. His works reflect the artist's psychological state in a haunting way.

Among other things, the comprehensive exhibition explores Giacometti's encounter with Max Ernst in Paris, where the two met in 1928 and worked in neighboring studios. In addition to creative creations from the surrealist phase, the Max Ernst Museum is showing selected examples of his filigree bronze figures developed after 1945 as well as paintings, drawings and prints.
