Gerhard Richter is considered one of the most important living artists in the world. The Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf is now presenting around 100 of his treasures from 40 private collections in the Rhineland, which have remained hidden from the public until now.
The major Richter exhibition sheds new light on the artist's oeuvre, which appears to be full of contradictions and discontinuities. It points to the Rhineland as the ideal environment in which his work could unfold since his move from Dresden in 1961. It was here that the painter, sculptor and photographer met like-minded people such as Sigmar Polke and Konrad Lueg, role models and stimulating figures such as Joseph Beuys. Curious and enterprising collectors have always been interested in his work here, making Richter one of the most sought-after artists on the art market to this day.
Guests learn about Gerhard Richter's exploratory examination of reality, which can be seen as a unifying element in his art. They will discover photorealistic depictions of nature, blurred paintings based on photographs, abstract works, glass and mirror objects.
