The idyllic market around the Wülfrath town church, surrounded by half-timbered houses in the Niederberg style illuminated for Christmas, dates back to Duke Wilhelm zu Jülich, Kleve, Berg. After a devastating fire in 1578, which almost completely destroyed the village of Wulfrod, the duke granted his village four tax-free fairs. This allowed the Kirspel Wulfrod to be rebuilt.
In memory of the Duke's generous gesture, he gave his name to the traditional Wülfrath Christmas market with its 30 or so stalls. Wülfrath residents and guests from near and far come together to enjoy the Advent season in a special pre-Christmas atmosphere with nice people, while enjoying a wide range of culinary delights and an always successful and varied stage program.
