Whether parks, gardens or green spots: There are many scenic gems to discover in the region. That's what the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) thought when it launched the Day of Gardens and Parks. Since then, around 150 sites have opened their doors to nature lovers on the first or second weekend in June every year. Public institutions and private grounds are included in Münsterland, the Ruhr region, East and South Westphalia.
The sensory tour leads to healing monastery plants, rural flowerbeds, exotic trees and amazing ornamental plants. Stately palace grounds, green centers in large towns and allotment gardens are transformed into showplaces of garden art. Each guest can put together their own route from the multifaceted program. The action weekend always takes place under a different motto, so that variety is always guaranteed - even when visiting the same location again.
Closing gaps in knowledge, sharpening senses
Many participating partners also offer cultural or guided tours. During guided tours, those who are unfamiliar with the area can close their knowledge gaps by finding out more about ornamental plants and horticulture. Participants can sharpen their sense of smell in workshops on the scents of nature. Their eyes widen as their gaze wanders over realistic landscape paintings during art activities.
Concerts round off the repertoire. Anyone who would like to be further inspired or share photos of their location can do so on social networks using the following identifiers: @kulturinwestfalen and #tagdergärtenundparks.
