In the middle of Oberhausen, within sight of the Gasometer, few people would expect to find such a rich fauna: Over 500 native animals live in the animal enclosure of the Kaisergarten Oberhausen, including a total of 25 mammal and 45 bird species.Alpacas, sheep and goats, deer, ponies and donkeys, tortoises and pigs are at home on the grounds and some of them can be stroked and fed.
In addition to the animal enclosure, the Kaisergarten also has other attractions on its grounds, such as Oberhausen Palace with its Ludwigs Galerie and the special pedestrian bridge "Slinky springs to Fame" by artist and architect Tobias Rehberger, which crosses the Rhine-Herne Canal and glows colorfully in the dark. Playgrounds, mini golf and archery are additional attractions for families in summer.
