If you're feeling sporty, you can easily cover the 67 kilometers from Windeck-Au to where the Sieg flows into the Rhine at Niederkassel-Mondorf (or vice versa) in one day. But if you love variety and want to get to know the country and its people better, you should definitely take two or three days to cycle the Sieg Valley cycle path. The tour leads along wide, pristine floodplains and colorful orchards, over dykes and through forests. Thanks to its wide and asphalted paths, it is also ideal for occasional and leisure cyclists as well as families - especially as there is only one challenging climb before Schladern, i.e. at the eastern start or end of the cycle tour.

Cyclists are then rewarded with an impressive natural spectacle: the multi-level Sieg Waterfall, which is incidentally the largest waterfall in North Rhine-Westphalia, thunders down over a width of 84 meters in Schladern. Once artificially created in the course of railroad construction (1857 - 1859), it is now a popular excursion destination.

The route continues west along the Sieg, where the four towers of Blankenberg Castle rise up about halfway along the route. Built around 1150 on a 150-metre-high ridge, the castle and the village of the same name with its historic town center are perfect for a "half-time break" before the next stage takes you through the towns of Hennef and Siegburg to just before Bonn. And on these last few kilometers, the landscape is once again the star. A picnic basket and camera are therefore a must in your saddlebag.
