This 16-kilometre trail tells the fascinating story of the copper trade that has shaped the town for centuries. The route leads past old copper yards where the metal was processed and impressive relics such as the Vichtbach, whose water power once drove the forging hammers. A highlight is the imposing Kupfermeisterstraße, a historic lane with magnificent town houses of the once wealthy copper masters.

However, the Kupferroute is not only characterized by history, but also by architecture and nature: the hike offers impressive views of Stolberg Castle, which towers high above the town, and leads through the idyllic nature reserve around the Schlangenberg, where rare plants have settled. The yellow blossoms of the rare galmei violets can be seen, especially in the months of May to August. Forest and sweeping views over the Voreifelland characterize the landscape all year round.
