Black-and-white cattle are the four-legged friends that hikers encounter most often on tours in the Bergisches Land region. On the "Farm Trail", however, they not only get to know this dairy breed, but also learn a lot about other farm animals such as geese, chickens and pigs, about the work of the farmer and about typical crops grown in Bergisch fields.
Along the 12.6-kilometre circular trail, richly illustrated information boards also accompany hikers through the history of agriculture, show how the potato began its triumphal march in Germany and why asparagus is a real herald of spring. There are lots of clever ideas to discover, with which Bergisch farmers are creating new economic pillars today: from farm stores to farm cafés and Christmas tree sales to the huge bio-power plant, which is operated with liquid manure and food waste, among other things, and can supply numerous houses and apartments with electricity and heating.
Each of the eleven information boards also offers child-friendly texts with the mouse from the "Sendung mit der Maus" show for little hikers.
With the Schiefelbusch farm, the Gammersbacher Mühle mill (at weekends) and the Krewelshof farm (approx. 2 km away), there are three farms/cafés along the way that invite you to stop for a bite to eat. The bistro at Auel Golf Club also welcomes hungry hikers.
