Moments of happiness in natureForesight, forest and agile animals
A climb to the summit, encounters with goats and alpacas and a panoramic view of a former quarry - the Teutoschleife Canyon Blick loop is around 11 kilometres long and takes you on a leisurely hike along nature trails through the Tecklenburger Land region. Ideal for relaxing and clearing your head. Go on a discovery tour with Silke and Hannah and get to know the Teutoschleife Canyon Blick.
Moin, moin!In the Tecklenburger Land
Whether one of the 17 Teuto loops, the Hermannsweg or part of the Way of St James - the Tecklenburger Land region on the border between Münsterland and the Teutoburg Forest is a true hiker's paradise with its mix of rock formations, parkland and small villages.
Right at the start of the hike, we realise that Tecklenburger Land is close to the border with Lower Saxony. Quite a few hikers call out a cheerful "Moin" to us on our "Canyon Blick" circular trail, which leads past the former Lengerich quarry. We can decide at the start of the hike: Depending on the direction of travel, the viewpoint of the canyon is at the very beginning or the end of the circular route.
Through nature with open eyesViewpoints and panoramic views
We decide in favour of the view of the canyon right at the start of the tour. Depending on the weather and sunlight, the water in the quarry is sometimes more, sometimes less blue and turquoise. Goats climb and graze on the slopes. We meet two animals on our way that seem to have lost their way. They keep an inquisitive eye on us, but keep their distance as a precaution.
In addition to the canyon view, there are plenty of viewpoints along the way where you can take a break and enjoy the view. For example, a bench with a view of the Stapenhorst estate or the Leedener Berg, where the so-called Lusthäuschen stood until 1910 and which, at 202 metres above sea level, is the highest point in the city. The climb up the mountain is well worth it. We enjoy the view over the region before heading back down again.
A detour to TecklenburgFinish in the half-timbered town
Our tip: If your legs aren't tired after the hike, you should definitely make a detour to Tecklenburg. With its historic centre, the town is the ideal place to stop for coffee and cake in the midst of half-timbered houses and small alleyways. If you want to get up high again, Tecklenburg Castle offers a great view of the surrounding countryside - for example of Ibbenbühren or Münster.
Our favourite places
- Eis Café Fenice: Waffles, sundaes or cakes - at Eis Café La Fenice right on the market square in Tecklenburg, you can reward yourself with sweet treats after your exertions. Really cosy and simply delicious.
- On a treasure hunt: On a total of six walking trails, including the Canyon Blick, you can go on an adventure hunt with either GPS or a real treasure map during geochaching. An exciting alternative to a normal hike, especially for families.
- Bench with a view of Gut Stapenhorst: From this bench, you have a great view of the Tecklenburger Land landscape and Gut Stapenhorst farm. Ideal for putting your feet up for a moment and simply savouring the moment.
