Trace the history of a noble family in the magnificent Knights' Hall? Explore the historic tower room on a guided tour? Or take a stroll through the castle garden? All of this is possible on Castles and Palaces Day in Münsterland.
Every year at the height of summer, around 40 locations open their doors on one day in June for guests who want to immerse themselves in another era and experience cultural delights at the same time. Impressive fortresses, magnificent manor houses, historic buildings, monasteries steeped in history and important manor houses open their doors for the event - including places that are otherwise not accessible to the public.
A new look at sights
The treasures of the culturally rich Münsterland are presented in a new light on this day: individual sections such as castle walls, moats and towers are illuminated. Readings, concerts and performances take place in the castle courtyards, while art exhibitions and hands-on activities await inside the buildings.
If you don't want to drive from one place to the next, you can join walking or cycling groups that travel from one venue to the next. Several groups start at different times, heading for Raesfeld Castle, Cappenberg Castle, Hülshoff Castle, Bentlage Abbey, Vischering Castle or Nordkirchen Castle, for example. Parts of the 100 Castles Route with its four circular routes are also covered.
