Should it be the golden gazpacho with parmesan chip and avocado, the braised veal shank with aniseed and red wine sauce and chanterelles or the gourmet menu from the "Selection E.B."? Two seasonally adapted menus leave nothing to be desired at the Pierburg. The restaurant offers guests dishes similar to those served in good French bistros, family-run Italian trattorias or German inns. In addition, gourmets can look forward to coordinated compositions with up to five courses that reflect the current state of modern, international culinary art.
Chef Erika Bergheim and her team fulfill almost every wish of visitors: the ambassador of enjoyment for the Ruhr region completely redesigned the Pierburg after taking it over in 2021 and prepared it for upscale gastronomy. A total of 80 people can now be seated in the stately dining room and the cozy wine bar. In the summer months, a large sun terrace is also open, offering a view of the idyllic landscape of the south of Essen.
Two Gault Millau toques
In 2009, Erika Bergheim was the first woman in North Rhine-Westphalia to receive the Michelin star chef award. At the time, she was one of only four female star chefs in the whole of Germany. She has experience as a chef for large banquets, parties and events and has received several awards for her innovative and outstanding cuisine. Most recently, she worked successfully in the Laurushaus restaurant at the Schlosshotel Hugenpoet. The Pierburg has already received two Gault Millau toques under her management, an award for the "high level of culinary art, creativity and quality".
