The historic mustard mill in the beautiful Eifel town of Monschau has been producing mustard by hand in the 4th and 5th generation since 1882. The best quality is produced here between the old millstones using cold methods, just like in the old days. The famous Moutarde de Montjoie is now available in 21 different varieties.
In the adjoining lovingly restored listed building, the Schnabuleum restaurant (partner of the regional "Eifel Kulinarisch" initiative), all dishes are also refined with the restaurant's own mustard. The regional and seasonal menu includes hearty Eifel dishes and imaginative fish dishes as well as unusual creations and delicious dishes for vegetarians. There is also a range of events such as the popular mill evening on Thursdays with a tour of the mill followed by a 3-course meal in the restaurant, poetry readings and music evenings as well as culinary wine tastings.
Guided tours of the mustard mill are also available for those who want to find out more. Group tours are available for groups of 12 people or more by prior arrangement; open tours are also offered during the summer months. Mustard lovers can also stock up on the best mustard from the region for their home cooking in the mustard shop. There is also a wine cellar with over 400 German and international wines.
The Historische Senfmühle Monschau is run by Ruth Breuer, who is an ambassador of enjoyment for the Eifel and Aachen region. You can find more information at www.nrw-tourismus.de/ruth-breuer.
