Pushing the limitsAbout the twelve eight-hundredths of the Sauerland
The Sauerland has tours, bike and trail parks for every level. For example, a 20-kilometre-long Hochheide tour over the highest mountain in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Langenberg, is short but crisp and includes a technically demanding trail section. Even though it is important to concentrate on your riding technique, you should treat yourself to a view over the heath and the Hochsauerland: It's so beautiful here. Then it's downhill on a freeride route down to Willingen. Warmed up? Then it's time to really get going over several of the highest mountains in the Sauerland: the "Zwölf Achthunderter" circuit, which covers around 100 kilometres, pushes even fit bikers to their limits. But one thing is certain: you can do it! And if the youngsters are already in the saddle: In the Bike Arena Sauerland, there is the Mountainbike Kidsnetz in Willingen as well as special offers in trail centres and small mountain bike facilities that give children a feel for riding technique and riding fun on trails and routes.
Seven SummitsSiegen-Wittgenstein
The main ridge of the Rothaargebirge is the centre of the Siegen-Wittgenstein region for mountain bikers. And Hilchenbach is the ideal starting point for introductory tours and highly ambitious tours. A real highlight is hidden behind the name "Seven Summits": this route connects the seven highest mountains around Hilchenbach, including the Riemen, which at around 680 metres is also the highest mountain in Siegerland.
Around the volcanoesEifel
In the Eifel, for example, 20 mountain bike routes of varying degrees of difficulty offer a total of around 500 kilometres of riding fun. Trail parks such as the Hürtgenwald Mountain Bike Park or the Vulkaneifel Trail Park with its 750 kilometres of trails and 17,500 metres of altitude difference offer plenty of mountain biking fun in one place. In the Rur-Eifel, routes under the heading "Freifahrt Eifel" attract cyclists of all levels of difficulty.
Are you fit and want to embark on a multi-day tour? Then the Eifel-Höhen-Route is a suggestion for you: On its challenging route of 230 kilometres in total, it offers breathtaking panoramic views, very different landscapes and romantic little towns.
Ruhrpott-Cross and half trailsRuhr area
The mountain bike tours of the Ruhr region lead over former mining spoil tips. The Ruhrpott-Cross, for example, runs for 130 kilometres from Duisburg to Dortmund right through the slag heap landscape and is an insider tip for mountain bikers. The trails in the Hoheward Landscape Park between Herten and Recklinghausen offer fully signposted cross-country fun away from the network of hiking trails.
Tour tip HermannsdenkmalTeutoburg Forest
Stops are a must on MTB tours through the Teutoburg Forest, as the trails connect many viewpoints and sights. Nine tour suggestions lead along winding paths to well-known highlights as well as hidden treasures such as medieval ruins and facilities for the historic extraction of healing moorland. Are you looking for challenges and highlights worth seeing? Then make your way to the Hermannsdenkmal: from Bad Meinberg, you can follow small, hidden paths and trails through the Werretal valley, up the ridge of the Remmighauser Berg and to the Grotenburg with its famous monument, which is the highest statue in Germany and the landmark of an entire region with a total height of exactly 53.46 metres.
