International Art Academy Heimbach

Heimbach

Discover the Heimbach International Art Academy, a renowned educational institution for fine arts in the Rhineland, which promotes creativity and teaches artistic skills.

One of the oldest buildings in the Eifel region, the medieval Hengebach Castle, has been home to the Heimbach International Art Academy since 2009. Ambitious amateurs and professionals alike learn to develop their creativity in the studios - but sometimes simply let their gaze wander over the small Eifel town, the forests and the idyllic Rur valley.

Pablo Picasso once put it like this: "As a child, everyone is an artist, the difficulty lies in remaining one as an adult." At the most beautifully situated art academy in Germany, this is guaranteed to succeed. Renowned artists from Germany and abroad teach people with and without artistic experience in the spacious studios of the Heimbach International Art Academy. In addition to technique, the focus is on the creativity of each individual.

Wide range of courses

Whether printmaking, painting, new media or sculpture, beginners or advanced: the courses offered by the academy, which is situated on a slate cliff high above the Rur valley, are aimed at all ages and professional groups, managers and trainees alike, art enthusiasts with and without disabilities. Or simply anyone who is curious about creative processes and wants to be inspired by the beauty of the Eifel landscape.

But of course there is also a sense of achievement: In regular exhibitions, the course participants present the results of their artistic work together with the instructors. The art academy, which was opened in the medieval Hengebach Castle in 2009, is not only a place of learning for art and culture, but also a place of encounter. Every year, the landmark of the town of Heimbach hosts a large summer academy with art and fun for young people and the big academy festival. With Otmar Alt, Charles Fazzino, Janosch, James Rizzi and Graphic Novel, the academy has also been able to present five major special exhibitions and realize the "Art in the Bush" project since its foundation. Under the eyes of the public, renowned artists have created eight sculptures, sculptures and installations in nature, which visitors can see on a 1.6-kilometre circular trail - while enjoying their own creative break in the great outdoors.
