Accompany the Fellowship of the Ring on their adventures, eat a Lembas loaf around the campfire with Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamdschie or take to the field with the Riders of Rohan: All of this is possible at Tolkien Days in Geldern. Middle-earth comes to life once a year on the Lower Rhine when over 8,000 fantasy fans come together for Europe's largest J.R.R. Tolkien fan meeting. On the weekend after Whitsun, the village of Pont provides the ideal backdrop to immerse yourself in the famous fantasy universe.
Characters from the novels
Groups set up their tents on the wide green spaces of the Pont sports and leisure center. They represent dwarves, elves, hobbits, Uruk Hai or Nazgûl and give visitors the impression of a lively book world. Guests almost feel like they are in the Shire when they meet well-known characters from the novels between the trees, fields and market stalls - not excluding Gandalf and Gollum.
Those who want to find out more about live role-playing, cosplay or camp life have the opportunity to do so almost everywhere: In workshops, craftspeople show how to make costumes true to the original. Master brewers teach the fine art of brewing beer in the dwarven tradition. Authors inspire thought-provoking journeys during readings and bands invite you to dance with medieval sounds. Tolkien's influence is reflected in lectures that always make connections to current topics.
Highlights of the event also include an open-air cinema, falconry shows and riding lessons. It has been organized on a voluntary basis by the German Tolkien Society (DTG) since 2009.
