Whether skateboarding, climbing or playing basketball: The Ruhr Games are Europe's largest sports and cultural festival for young people. Since 2015, they have been held every two years at different locations in the Ruhr region, with girls and boys giving their best in over 300 top competitions in Essen, Dortmund and Bochum. The program includes a mixture of Olympic disciplines and impressive action sports.
The event organized by the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR) also offers its guests four days of rousing concerts, urban art and surprising show acts. Stage acts in previous years have included stars such as Jan Delay, Lena, Cro, Bosse, Clueso and Giant Rooks.
Ruhr Games 2025
The Ruhr Games will take place in 2025 as a one-off festival edition as part of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. In contrast to previous years, there will be no traditional competitive sports competitions at this edition. Instead, the event will enrich the sporting event for top student athletes with a diverse cultural and social program. From July 17 to 20, guests can take part in workshops around the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum, listen to live music or watch artists at work.
