Max Ernst is a master of surrealist collage: for his works from 1922 onwards, he dismantled images of human and non-human bodies and reassembled them into new creatures in the creative process. With the exhibition "Hypercreatures", the Max Ernst Museum Brühl of the LVR is now exploring the question of what characterizes these hybrid creatures that combine elements of animal, machine, human and plant.

To this end, 20 contemporary artists are presenting their surrealistic creatures. These hyper-creatures, which are placed in relation to Max Ernst's creatures, stand for a new understanding of identity, difference and culture.

Visitors to the show can get to the bottom of the fundamental processes of image creation and follow the compositional steps. The works allow conclusions to be drawn about the artists' understanding of science, technology and progress.
