The city of Dortmund is known worldwide for its long-standing brewing tradition and successful beer distribution. During the 19th century, thanks to a growing population and high demand, it experienced a heyday in which countless breweries were founded and made a name for themselves. Dortmund's beer production reached its peak in the 20th century; no other city produced more beer in Europe.
The legacy of this era lives on to this day. With such a history, it's no wonder that the Dortmund Beer Culture Festival was founded in 2016, which presents traditional Dortmund beers as well as beers from all over the world, craft beer brands and beer cocktails. And the best thing is: you can sample to your heart's content! In a relaxed atmosphere, visitors can taste a wide variety of beers between art and music and learn all about the ingredients and production of this traditional drink.
Around 100 breweries present themselves every year on a weekend in summer at Friedensplatz in Dortmund. Guests can put together their own tasting menu from 300 different beers. Craft beer experts, black beer connoisseurs and pilsner specialists provide tips for the next palate-pleaser or home brewing. Local specialties come from breweries such as Dortmunder Kronen, Brinkhoffs, Hövels and Bergmann.
