The Castle Christmas at Satzvey has been one of the most beautiful historical Christmas markets with a medieval nativity play in the Eifel region for many years. The festive atmosphere with twinkling lights, the scent of Christmas and the historic ambience of the castle are sure to bring a sparkle to children's eyes. Stroll past market stalls where traders offer their handmade goods and regional specialties. The food and refreshments on offer are completely disposable. Whether wooden toys, Christmas tree decorations, nativity scenes, soaps or incense - you are sure to find the right gift or souvenir here. The nativity play, which is modeled on the Staufer period in its design and elaborate costumes, has been held several times a day in the castle park for over 15 years. At that time, the majority of the population could not read, and the Christmas story was brought closer to the people through performances. The scenes are still spoken in Latin and Middle High German today, a proclaimer translates them into German for the audience and accompanies them with the atmospheric ringing of bells.
In Santa's workshop, children have the opportunity to place the wish list they have made at home in the letterbox and see Santa Claus and his elves busily preparing gifts. Here and there they put a sweet little something in the children's hood, fun for the whole family! Young visitors can also paint delicious gingerbread in the castle's own bakery.
Like the other events at Satzvey, including the legendary Knights' Festival, the Castle Christmas serves to preserve the castle. Under the motto "Preservation through entertainment", the family of Count Beissel von Gymnich maintains the moated castle and presents it to the public with a varied program throughout the year. If you would like to delve deeper into the history of the castle, a guided tour gives you the opportunity to see the castle and its magnificent halls from the inside. Other events throughout the year invite you to visit.
Santa Claus and elves
Santa Claus and his elves will be on site to receive the children's wish lists. His precious robed elves will eagerly walk around and give visitors a sweet treat or two. Cuddly toys and toys that have been donated and are now looking for a new home will also be distributed. On Saturdays until 3 p.m., children can have their boots filled.
