The magnificent building in the Hohe Mark Nature Park is an ideal starting point for day-trippers who want to relax and discover baroque beauty at the same time. A path leads from the driveway through the middle of the moated castle into an English garden. In addition to the wonderful parks, visitors can trace the history of the castle in the castle's own museum.
Lembeck moated castle in Dorsten looks almost like a fairytale castle. Surrounded by nature, forests and meadows, the estate is the perfect place to take a break from stressful everyday life, switch off and unwind. Its location in the Hohe Mark Nature Park makes it one of the most important excursion destinations in the region. And not just for hikers and cyclists.
Expansion of the tower hill castle
The complex is particularly impressive due to its unusual architecture, which can be traced back to Dietrich Conrad Adolf von Westerholt. He extended the former tower hill castle to its current size between 1670 and 1692. Today, visitors can look through the entire castle complex from the driveway. The eye wanders over several high sandstone pillars with attractive sculptural art and ornaments to the old stone walls of the baroque outer bailey.
If you walk through the ornate archway from here, you will soon discover the beautiful main castle on a separate island in front of you. The highlight of the estate is its massive towers with pointed onion domes, which mark the outer corners of the building. A statue of the Virgin Mary, which is incorporated into the front, shows guests the way to the extensive English garden, where roses and rhododendrons bloom in summer.
Over 15,000 visitors flock here every year around Corpus Christi, when the so-called Landpartie starts. A cultural program with stage shows, arts and crafts, fashion and music awaits at the event of the year. Vintage cars can be viewed and admired. A visit to the castle or local history museum rounds off an entertaining stay for many day-trippers. Exhibits such as swords, furniture, tapestries and paintings tell the story of the castle's eventful history. For history buffs, there is something to discover around every corner. Active vacationers can visit the Atlantis adventure pool in Dorsten or the Bottrop Movie Park. Lembeck Castle is located on the western route of the 100 Castles Route, from here you can make wonderful detours into the surrounding countryside by bike.
