The former Ravensberger Spinnerei, the Hechelei, the Volkshochschule, the Historisches Museum, the Museum Hülsmann, and the Lichtwerk cinema turn Ravensberger Park into a cultural centre. The central location is supplemented by flexible infrastructure and the diverse spatial options to make Ravensberger Park particularly interesting for events of all kinds.

History of the Ravensberger Spinnerei

In the mid-1960s, Ravensberger Spinnerei AG went bankrupt after a history that spanned more than 130 years. It was one of the largest flax spinning mills in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. Most recently, it was one of the two spinning mills still processing flax in the Federal Republic of Germany and the last large textile company in the former linen town of Bielefeld.
The building and grounds of the spinning mill with 61,000 m² were sold to the city of Bielefeld. At the instigation of Bielefeld citizens, the state conservator of Westphalia Lippe placed the factory castle under monument protection in 1972.
The site was brought back to life starting in the late 1980s, following extensive conversion and renovation work.

Adjustable room ensembles turn the park into an extremely diverse location – including a historical ambience and charming surroundings. Do not get confused by the term of “park”.
